How Fruittii Came to Life
OUR STORY SO FAR
The Fruittii London story began in 2014 when barber Tuttii transformed an old caravan into a playful technicolor space that turned getting a haircut into an immersive experience.
Tuttii had a vision: to create an inclusive, inspiring haven in which people of any gender, sexuality, race, age or class could walk in and feel empowered to request and receive the look or style of their dreams. A one-of-a-kind, zero-judgment, LGBTQIA+ salon in which everyone was equal, pricing was fair and non-discriminatory, and no style was too outrageous or ambitious.
The Fruittii Caravan operated from the grounds of the old Tidemill School, a treasured community space. When a long fight to save the school from developers was lost, Tuttii was evicted and began to look for a new home for Fruittii London.
Following a successful crowdfunder, their little ‘Magic Box’ salon opened its multicolored doors in the heart of Deptford in 2016. The art-filled, otherwordly space quickly became a focal point of the community as Tuttii continued to tirelessly perfect the unique service they offered and ensure that every client left with a smile and a refreshed perspective of themselves—whether they were popping in for a trim or a transformation.
Though even the most simple and traditional styles were embraced at Fruittii London, Tuttii was passionate about pushing the boundaries of hairdressing through their trademark ‘Fruittii Patterns’ shaves, all-over Colour Bombs and extreme innovative hair sculpting. These radical ‘hair as art’ transformations put the salon on the map, with clients coming from further and further afield for a restyle like no other.
At the salon’s heart was a deep belief in the power of hair to transform wellbeing and express identity—from bobs to balayage, mullets to mohicans. But the space was about more than hair. With highly-trained staff attending to clients’ every need, cocktails & nibbles on offer, a glorious soundtrack, surreal surroundings and a joyous social atmosphere, Tuttii aimed to take every client on a regenerative multi-sensory journey.
Fruittii London’s core ethos has always been inclusivity and accessibility. ‘Pay Wat U Can Afford’ days ensured that no one was priced out of self care. Training all staff in all hair types—from 1A to 4C—ensured that nobody would ever be turned away. And gender-neutral pricing allowed the salon to operate beyond the binary.
But soon, the vision began to outgrow the Magic Box. And so, in 2023, Fruittii London is entering the next phase of its cosmic journey as it relocates to an extraordinary new space and becomes…
